wich r better da DC or da Marvel characters..?
im a biiiig fan of Wolverine n Gambit………but recently i watchd Watchmen da movie n i kinda likd da characters……but i dont kno ny of der names….
dis is a ques 4 all dos who read both dc n marvel comics…not 4 ny1 like me…lol

The thing is…Marvel tends to have bigger “mainstream” characters, but the DC list runs *much deeper* and has more really cool characters buried away in all sorts of neat corners.
_Watchmen_ is a rather special case. Originally Moore and Gibbons were going to use some *existing* characters from the Charlton Comics company DC bought out in the 70s: Captain Atom, The Question, Blue Beetle, and so on. But DC Comics had other plans for those specific characters and so “surrogates” had to be made:
And so Captain Atom became Dr. Manhattan,
Blue Beetle became Nite-Owl (yeah, both of them),
Nightshade became the Silk Spectre (both)
And The Question got amped up into Rorschach.
In many ways, this needed change liberated the story–since these were “new” characters specific to the _Watchmen_ narrative, Moore and Gibbons could and literally did do *everything* with the characters that back then, you *Didn’t* see in the comic books. You got to see how dark and ugly and mean the whole idea of “superheroes as real people” could get.
The point is though: it all started not with the “mainstream” DC hits like Batman and Superman. It started with C-list names that nobody knew, that the writer could play with.
And DC Comics, for better or worse, has *more* of those sorts of characters than anyone. The company has made it a point from day one, to *acquire* characters, either by lawsuit or by buying comic book companies outright.
Marvel, until recently, made it their point to *develop* their characters better than anyone. I have to say “until recently” because I really really *Really* don’t like a lot of what’s been going on under Bendis, Quesada, and company, since about…2000 or so? It’s gone too far. Too many “big events” and too much shock value. I’ve stopped reading Marvel entirely for the time being, and don’t miss it.
That’s really the difference you’re talking about there.
