Ethernet hubs work by connecting a group of computers within an Ethernet network via twisted pair cables or RJ-45. What they do is to allow for easy data exchange through an Ethernet connection. Technically, they consist of multiple ports that connect all computers within a network to a central network device or a router. Typically, the hubs would have recovery features that offer automatic disconnection of the source port for isolating the problem. Just in case there are data collisions and other connection problems, they can still work more efficiently compared to coaxial Ethernet connections.

For smaller networks

A passive Ethernet hub is one type of hub you can consider using. It works by sending data from a single port to other ports within the network. They are ideal for small offices and homes with a few computers in them. This is because too many computers within the network can cause congestion or data collision.

Active or passive?

Make sure that you only buy a passive Ethernet hub after determining how many computers you have in your home or office. Still, you can also use one together with an active hub that offers more interconnectivity. An active Ethernet hub is capable of rerouting incoming data packets to particular destinations, which helps in decongesting the network while lessening the risks for data collision. This Ethernet hub also provides for smoother connections that help you lessen your traffic in the network.

Security matters

If you are considering a passive Ethernet hub for your home or office, make sure that you choose one that has many ports to accommodate all your computers. However, make sure that it has a built-in firewall to prevent harmful data from being passed around the network. Some firewalls you can consider include filters for peer-to-peer or email transfers.

The strip is a merciless and outrageous lampooning of popular culture sacred cows — subject matter as diverse as the coffee craze, militant attorneys general, and William Shatner — and a sideways look at the things that drive urban craziness. The strip has attracted thousands of fans, many of whom are supposedly famous and want Don to direct movies and things.

Ingo Giezendanner: Seattle/San Francisco:

$23.87

In May and July of 1998, Ingo Giezendanner traveled along the Pacific Coast, making India ink drawings in Seattle and San Francisco of store-window displays, rows of Victorian houses, typical American products, bathroom grafitti, streetsigns, as well as scenes from cartoons and television shows. The charm of these pop-influenced, animation-style drawings lies in their narrative poetry. His book of drawings, published here in a facsimile edition, can be seen as a detailed storyboard layout for a classic West Coast road movie, complete with beer bottles in brown bags, laundromats, barbershops, and movie theater marquees. Ingo Giezendanner, born in 1975, lives and works in Zurich. In addition to publishing his own comic books, Giezendanner has shown his drawings in several group exhibitions.

Excerpt: The Treaty of Peace with Japan (commonly known as the Treaty of San Francisco or San Francisco Peace Treaty), between the Allied Powers and Japan, was officially signed by 49 nations on September 8, 1951, at the War Memorial Opera House in San Francisco, California. It came into force on April 28, 1952. This treaty served to officially end World War II, to formally end Japan’s position as an imperial power, and to allocate compensation to Allied civilians and former prisoners of war who had suffered Japanese war crimes. This treaty made extensive use of the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to enunciate the Allies’ goals. This treaty, along with the Security Treaty signed that same year, is said to mark the beginning of the San Francisco System; this term, coined by historian John W. Dower, signifies the effects of Japan’s relationship with the United States and its role in the international arena as determined by these two treaties and is used to discuss the ways in which these effects have governed Japan’s post-war history.
